Hello!

 My name is Vanessa but during this blog I will be going by the name Nessie. I was born and raised right here in Lawrenceville, Georgia. My parents, originally from Colombia, immigrated here a little over 20 years ago. Although i was born and raised here, Spanish was my first language and i didn't end up learning English until I entered elementary school. 

I love makings art. Any kind of art; drawing, painting, sculpting, sewing, photography, and making music. I also love gardening. My favorite form is drawing although I'm currently trying to focus on my photography. 

I live with two roommates and four cats. We are all students at GGC. Well the cats aren't.

Welcome to Santa Marta, Colombia!

 Due to covid, I haven't been able to visit my family in almost a year. Since I think everyone else's holiday plans got canceled, I figured I'd combine the two and tell you about one of my favorite vacation spots in Colombia, Santa Marta.  Geographically Caribbean, Santa Marta is a city in the northern coastal region of Colombia. This city has beautiful beaches and a bustling nightlife. They won't have this at any of the fancy tourist restaurants but ask around for arepa de huevo. Its my favorite breakfast food ever and they make the best one's on the coast.  If the beach life isn't your style, may I suggest taking a hike through Santa Marta's breathtaking tropical rain forest.

Brief history of Santa Marta Historical sights

       Santa Marta has a rich history that, like most american regions, starts with a native culture that we know little to none about that was conquered by a european country. In this case the natives were called the Tairona and although they mainly worked in agriculture, there's also evidence that they processed and sold salt.  The now known city of Santa Marta was conquered on July 29, 1525 by Spanish conquistador Rodrigo de Bastidas. This city is the oldest remaining city in Colombia and the second oldest in south america. Santa Marta gained its independence along with all of Colombia on July 20, 1810. Well most of the regions didn’t begin to declare independence until 1811.
